If you are blessed with children, you should get ready for more excitement. Carnivals are a great option for outdoor lovers. They always get held in cities from the moment winter sets in. There are numerous such resorts in the US. Once you take a couple of rides down the snow covered slopes of your resort, the day will remain forever etched in memory. Many mountain resorts have numerous trails for skiers who have varying lengths of skill.

One notable activity that is popular with city based families is snowshoeing. It is easy to do and is just as exciting as many other activities. It can be done in any location that has got snow. While most people love to do it in their backyards, you are certain to find a decent number of people doing it in Central Park, NY any day during winter.

Winter hiking is another exciting thing to do. You could head out into the wilderness for see the natural beauty for yourself. Fly fishing is also pretty popular in certain areas. Just ensure you wear the correct clothing to protect yourself from the cold. Also pack all your essentials to avoid having to buy new stuff from the local stores. There are many useful winter hiking guides online.

If your idea of an activity is something intense, snowmobiling is for you. North America is home to thousands of trails that you could use for this activity. You only need to rent one once you are on site. Most sites also have guides on hand to give guided tours.

A good choice for children is ice skating. Getting a good open rink in the area should be quick and simple. Residents of New York have Central Park for this. If no rinks are available in the open, consider doing it at a nearby hotel.

Even with all these activities, your safety should come first. Avoid ice skating over frozen lakes. You never know when the ice might break. If you plunge into sub zero temperature waters, you will only have about 5 minutes before hypothermia sets in. Also avoid swimming if possible.
