Finding And Buying Wire Wheels For Cars

By Paul Bell

An easy and low cost way to customize your vehicle is to fit some aftermarket rims. Most cars are made and fitted with alloy or steel rims as standard and there are many suppliers who can offer an upgrade which will improve the looks of a car. If you are searching for and buying wire wheels for cars there are a lot of suppliers and some care is needed before you place an order.

A set of wire rims can be located that will fit most models of car that are being driven on the road. There are many styles to choose form and various finishes, sizes and colors are available at various prices to suit all pockets. They can be found in auto factors in most areas as well as the many online suppliers that are trading.

If brand new rims are too expensive there is another option and you can buy a used set of four wire wheels. From around two hundred dollars you can find these in local scrap yards and garage workshops and most are in good condition and ready to fit. Some rims may need some restoration work and there are companies that can re chrome or coat them to improve the condition.

If you want something extra special the bespoke wheels can also be ordered and purchased for your vehicle. These handmade custom rims will start from around 2000 bucks for four and they will increase in price according to style, finish and the number of spokes. The fixings can also be custom made and decorated with a name, picture or logo that you have selected.

When you are buying new rims it is very important to check a couple of things on the vehicle. If the aftermarket wheels are bigger than the ones that are fitted to your car you will need to ensure there is enough clearance to enable the new ones to turn. Some vehicles may also need brakes and suspension upgrades which can be costly.

Another thing to consider is that you are going to need different tools in case you need to remove a wheel at the roadside. Wire rims are usually secured with a single spinner nut and the standard lever supplied with your car originally will not do the job. Most suppliers will be able to offer you these tools or you can buy them from an auto store or tool shop.

Correct maintenance of wire rims is also important and something to consider. Cleaning and polishing the many spokes is time consuming and tricky but there are a few tips which may help. Small brushes and old clothing can be used to get into the awkward areas behind spokes. You will also need to remove the rims periodically to properly clean behind them and check them for any corrosion.

Before fitting new rims it is advisable to speak to a qualified technician and get them to do the work. You should also be aware that buying from a web based supplier may be cheaper but you may get better after sales care from a local auto store. You should keep the original steel or alloy rims that were on your car and refit them if you sell it.
