Useful Information Regarding RHD Conversion Ford F150

By Timothy Scott

The process of converting vehicles from right-hand drive to left-hand drive is not a simple one and requires someone with a lot of expertise in this field. Armatures should not attempt to perform this process. Similarly, this process cannot be classified under DIY project and as such, cannot be performed at home in the garage. There are several safety hazards that are involved in trying to complete this process without an expert. Here are facts regarding RHD conversion Ford F150.

The conversion process consists of several processes. Several parts of the car have to be changed, repositioned, replaced or adjusted along with other actions. This process consists of repositioning the steering wheel, pedal assembly, dashboard, brake master cylinder, dashboard and firewall accessories. The side mirrors, doors and wiper mechanisms have to be adjusted as well. As easy as this may sound, the actual work is very hard to accomplish.

The whole steering wheel with all the elements below it has to be completely dismantled when repositioning the steering wheel. Repositioning the steering wheel to the other side of the vehicle is the main objective of this process. This process should be conducted with a lot of care since there are other vehicle components that need to be modified as well. Steering system, the engine and braking system are some of them.

After the steering wheel has been repositioned, the steering rack has to be replaced. The steering rack is an entire assembly of different components. As such, replacing it will also affect other components such as the airbags. Care needs to be taken to avoid causing damage to airbags. Airbags are usually very delicate components and slight damage to them will prevent them from deploying well.

The pedal assembly is the next element in the process to be repositioned. In case the vehicle is driven manually, it is essential to dismantle the three mounts found in the pedal. The mounts are then reinstalled on the other side after they have been pulled apart. This process is normally time consuming and very difficult to accomplish.

Repositioning the master cylinder is another hard and time taking process. This component is very important in all cars. It also must be removed and set up on the other side. Any little mistake made during re-installation will prevent the brakes from properly applying after the process of conversion is finished. Driving such a car is dangerous.

Firewall in a car is the cover that separates the passenger section from the engine bay. AC ducts, blower motor, wires and cables are some of the components that make up the firewall. One may need to remove the whole engine first before accessing and repositioning the accessories to the left side of the vehicle. A lot of knowledge is required when removing and placing the engine back.

Once all the steps named above have been completed, one must adjust the wiper mechanisms, doors, and wide mirrors. Some cars are designed with door controls on the right hand side. However, if the controls for the doors are located in the middle section, there may not be need for making any adjustments.
