How To Inspect Used Telehandlers For Sale In Chicago

By James Espinoza

Telescopic handlers are machines which are frequently used to lift items at loading docks and construction sites. They are also known as boom lifts, teleporters and telehandlers. Telescopic handlers are not expensive and they can perform various tasks. There are various factors you need to consider as you look for Telehandlers For Sale In Chicago.

One factor to consider is the terrain where the telescopic handler will be used. No matter how versatile telescopic handlers are, not all of them are designed to travel on rough terrain. It is therefore important to determine if a particular telehandler can be able to work well on your yard or terminal. Consider the amount of weight the machine can lift and the height it can reach too.

You need to perform a comprehensive inspection on used machinery before signing any sale agreement. The mechanical system must be scrutinized to check whether there are hidden problems. The mechanical system comprises of the engine, steering, brakes, hydraulics and drive train.

It is also essential to check for leaks by examining the valves, gaskets and seals. Furthermore, look at the ground below the machine to check for any evidence of fluid leaks. Check the brake and steering fluids also to find out if they are in optimal state or they need to be replaced. Inspect the entire steering and brake systems, including the service and parking brakes. Ensure that the brakes are working efficiently and the steering is soft and responsive.

Another thing to inspect is the structural system of the telehandler. It is not easy to tell if the basic structural parts of a telescopic handler are damaged. You should keenly inspect the chassis, boom, frame or the mast for any signs of cracks, rust or faulty welds. Check if the boom and mast have bent metals and if they are functional. Find out also if the forks attached to the machine are of the required size.

It is also vital to inspect the exterior look of the telehandlers. Check whether the telehandler you want to purchase has any visible or cosmetic damage which can affect the way it functions or its value. Inspect the cab seating, leather, fabric surfaces and the rubber for any sort of wear or tear. You should also check if the glass or plastic panels are fractured or broken. Check if the tires are worn out, punctured or damaged and if they are of the right size for the boom lift.

You should also request for the maintenance records of the used telehandler. A pre owned telescopic handler should have detailed maintenance records. Assess all the records on servicing, maintenance and repairs. Check if the owner carried out regular maintenance by considering the time that passed between each servicing procedure.

The other factor to consider is the support you can get from the manufacturer of the telehandler if anything goes wrong. If the manufacturer is no longer producing a certain telehandler model, servicing it when it breaks down may be difficult. Therefore, find out if the manufacturer offers support for spare parts, supplies and accessories. You can also find out if you can easily find these items on the market.
